Instagram just rolled out new, shiny, verified badges, and everyone wants in on the action. You may be wondering, how do I become verified? Does my account have what it takes? If you’re not sure, here are some tips.
Ask yourself:
Is my account complete?
Is all your information filled out? Do you have a complete bio and good profile picture? Or, does your profile contain cross-promotion for other social media platforms or sites?
Is what I do unique?
The site states in their terms that “only one account per person or business may be verified.” Are your own person, and do your own thing?
Am I authentic?
Are you a legitimate member of the community? (Considering you’re doing your research, the answer is probably yes!) Are you, the person on the account, a human, and not a bot or sock puppet?
Is my account noteworthy?
Is what you do often-searched for, praised, and maybe even covered in the news or on blogs? Is any of your content paid content, i.e. sponsored posts? Paid accounts can’t become verified.
If you think you fit the bill, go to Settings and Request Verification!
Unfortunately, the majority of the site’s userbase won’t make the cut. In fact, even celebrities and Internet figureheads, who seem like an obvious choice for the check, struggle to become verified. If you can’t get verified right away, don’t stress! Just wait 30 days and resubmit.
