The most important moment for any website is when a visitor lands on it. Within seconds, they decide whether they want to stick around or move on to another site.
It’s obvious that the latter is not what we want, and for this, it’s important for a website designer to consider a few tips that should help them achieve the former.
That said, here are 3 website design tips that will make sure you convert your visitors into customers:
#1: Understand your target audience
Knowing who your target audience is important but knowing them is just as important. For example, what do they care about, their goals and challenges and how you can create a win-win situation for them.
A couple of ways to do this is by interviews or through documenting their concerns through support, and then creating a website that addresses these problems.
#2: Write copy that speaks to each visitor (and not many)
Even if you want to create copy that speaks to a number of people, it’s still required that you write copy targeting one person at a time. Or else the message you want to convey will seem bland and impersonal.
Write copy that speaks to your target customer in the manner as if you are having an intimate conversation. Make sure you speaks in terms that they understand as well as about things that concern them.
#3: Stay focused on a single call-to-action
There are a number of things that you will find on sites these days that are a call-to-action such as pop-ups, slide-ups, sidebar and bottom of page opt in apart from Facebook,Twitter and chat options.
You can be sure that you visitor will leave especially if these options have nothing to do with what you have on offer. Instead keep your content clean and limit the number of call to action to just a few.
In fact, some sites like Instapaper just have one call-to-action: to create an account.
