How to add a menu item in Joomla.

Assuming you are logged into your Joomla administration

Click on the Main Menu  from the menus tab as shown below.

You will see an overview of your current menu items, let us go ahead and create a new menu item by clicking on the new icon found on the top right corner of your screen as shown below:

Select the type of menu you want to create, in this case let us select an article, so click on article, then article layout as shown below:

If you want to create a different type of link, you can change that here.
The screen in pop up and will prompt you to enter a title & alias for the menu item,  you can also change the menu being displayed in the parent item, published settings, access level and target info.
After that we need to select an article to link to the menu you just created. So click on the select button found on the right side of your Basic Parameters, as you click the select button, it will list out all the articles you have created earlier, select one of them to be linked to the menu you are just creating.
