Changing the color of an Image in Flash
Sometimes we need to change the color, hue or tint of an image in Flash. This can be done in multiple ways.
Option 1: Export the image, edit it in an image editorĀ and reimport it.
To do this:
- Drag the image to the stage in Flash
- Select the image
- File > Export > Export Image
- Edit the image in an image editor like Fireworks or Photoshop
- Double click the image in the Flash library
- Click the “Import button”
- Find the newly edited version of the image and import it. This will replace the old version
Option 2: Convert the image into a symbol and Use the Advanced color option within Flash
To do this:
- Right click the image instance on the stage in Flash. Select “Convert to symbol”.
- In the “Properties inspector” (Window > Properties)
- Choose “Advanced” from the “color” drop down menu
- Click on the “Settings” button and specify the required values

Option 3: Change the tint of the symbol in Flash
Instead of “Advanced”, you can also use the “Tint” option however that will change the entire image into a flat color.
Option 4: Use Filters within Flash
- Select the symbol (should be a movie clip or button)
- Open the Filter panel (Window > Properties > Filter)
- Click on the + sign and choose the “Adjust Color” option

- Adjust the settings as required, especially the “Hue”
